The State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemiţanu”, located in Moldovan capital Chisinau, is a scientific, curative and cultural center of university, residency and fellowship training as well as of continuous undergraduate and postgraduate education of doctors and pharmacists from the Republic of Moldova and from all over the world. It was founded on the basis of the Institute of Medicine no. 1 from St. Petersburg, Russia, which was evacuated during the World War II to Kislovodsk and subsequently transferred to Chisinau together with its teaching staff and students, under the name of the State Institute of Medicine. The Institute opened on 20 October 1945 and until today, it has produced over 100,000 medical specialists from around the world: Turkey, Israel, Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, India, Middle East, Africa, etc. The university owns modern medical technologies, laboratories, instruments and other necessary equipment for training of an advanced student. Following everything that is modern in higher education, further development and fundamental study of research and innovation activities, and rhythmic clinical work are the three components which determine the current image of the university.
The State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemiţanu” is accredited by the Ministry of Education of Moldova. Ministry of Education of Moldova has mutual collaboration agreements with Turkey, Israel and other countries. The university participates in the European Higher Education Area - Bologna Process. The studies are organized based on the European transferable academic credits system (ECTS). ECTS system facilitates student mobility in the European Area and the recognition of university diplomas.
The basic mission of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemiţanu” is defined by the key role it holds in the reform process of higher medical education, as well as in the healthcare system of the country. The aim of the undergraduate level is to train specialists in medicine and pharmacy, equipping them with moral principles, knowledge and practical skills indispensable for a qualified, competent and responsible practice of their profession, academic work, scientific research, and clinical activity (diagnosis, treatment, prevention of diseases). The process of training and improvement of medical skills is carried out in hospitals, ambulatory units, research centers and pharmacies in Moldova.

Graduate studies at the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemiţanu are represented by the Faculty of Residency/Clinical Internships and the Faculty of Continuous Training in Medicine and Pharmacy.
Courses are provided in Romanian, English and Russian languages.
Each academic year consists of 34 weeks divided into two semesters: Autumn semester (17 weeks) and Spring semester (17 weeks). There is an examination session at the end of each semester. Academic year begins on 1 September and ends at the beginning of August (including summer practical stage).
The university provides preparatory language courses for those students who choose to study in Romanian or English language. The students are taught Romanian or English language as well as the basics of biology, chemistry and physics. Having successfully passed the graduation exams, the candidates could be enrolled in undergraduate level programs at the chosen faculty.
