History

The Technical University of Moldova, located in Moldovan capital Chisinau, was founded in 1964, under the initial name “Polytechnic Institute of Chisinau”, when a group of engineering and economics specialists were transferred from the State University of Moldova. During its first years (1964 – 1965), the university had 5140 students, separated in 5 different faculties: Electrical Engineering, Mechanics, Technology, Construction, and Economics. The teaching staff was represented by 287 professors. During the following years, the university increased its standards and became a big educational, scientific and cultural center. Currently, over 9,000 students study at the university. Throughout the 51 years of its work, more than 78,387 graduates, including from many countries like Germany, USA, Israel, Turkey, Africa, etc., became good specialists and mentors. There is a technical scientific library and a number of lecture rooms, projector rooms, and computer centers at the university.


Accreditation and International recognition

The Technical University of Moldova is accredited by the Ministry of Education of Moldova. Ministry of Education of Moldova has mutual collaboration agreements with Turkey, Israel and other countries. The university participates in the European Higher Education Area - Bologna Process. The studies are organized based on the European transferable academic credits system (ECTS). ECTS system facilitates student mobility in the European Area and the recognition of university diplomas.


University studies

Faculties for undergraduate students

Foreign students are enrolled at the following faculties:

  • Mechanical, Industrial and Transport Engineering;
  • Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics;
  • Engineering and Management in Electronics and Telecommunications;
  • Technology and Management in Food Industry;
  • Textile Industry;
  • Cadastre, Geodesy and Constructions;
  • Urbanism and Architecture;
  • Economic Engineering and Business.

Graduate studies at the Technical University of Moldova are represented by master and doctorate programs in various disciplines.

Courses are provided in Romanian, English and Russian languages.

The duration of courses is 4 years. Each academic year consists of 34 weeks divided into two semesters: Autumn semester (17 weeks) and Spring semester (17 weeks). There is an examination session at the end of each semester. Academic year begins on 1 September and ends at the beginning of August.


Preparatory year

The university provides preparatory language courses for those students who choose to study in Romanian or English language. The students are taught Romanian or English language as well as the basics of mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, and computer science. Having successfully passed the graduation exams, the candidates could be enrolled in undergraduate level programs at the chosen faculty.

Duration of courses – 1 year.

University fees

The fee structure for students enrolled in academic year 2016-2017:

  • Preparatory year: 800-1000 €;
  • Undergraduate level: 1200-2000 € per academic year.

  2. Health Insurance – approx. 900 lei (~ 60 €)
  3. Right of Residence – 180 lei (~12 €) (~159 € for urgency)
  4. Residence Permit – 400 lei (~27 euro) (~ 47 € for urgency)
  5. Dormitory Fee – 440 lei (~20 € per month)
  6. Cost of the Invitation to Study – 10 €
  7. Cost of Courier “DHL” – 80 €
