“Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University was founded on 16 August 1940, with the original name “Moldovan State Pedagogical Institute”. In 1992, under the Government Decision no. 330 of 21 May "On the reorganization of higher education ", the Institute was reorganized into the “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University in Chisinau. In the year of its foundation, the university had 5 faculties: History and Philology, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Geography. In July 1941, the Institute was evacuated to the town Chkalov, and in 1944 it returned to Moldova with a group of 160 students and 20 teachers. Currently, over 6000 students study at more than 40 academic programs. Until today, over 34000 graduates of “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University from Moldova, Romania, Turkey, Israel, USA, and Middle East have become politicians, teaches, professors, writers, and people of global importance.
The “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University is accredited by the Ministry of Education of Moldova. Ministry of Education of Moldova has mutual collaboration agreements with Turkey, Israel and other countries. The university participates in the European Higher Education Area - Bologna Process. The studies are organized based on the European transferable academic credits system (ECTS). ECTS system facilitates student mobility in the European Area and the recognition of university diplomas.
The goal of “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University is to prepare teachers, professors and professionals in different domains and to conduct scientific research on the most important topics of pedagogy and languages. The university became a center of scientific and didactic development and has achieved a remarkable success. Throughout the year, the university has established important relations with many universities from Romania, Germany, USA, Russia, United Kingdom and Turkey, which allows to realize permanent exchange of students, teacher training, preparation and editing joint scientific works and documentation of mutual archives and libraries.

Graduate studies at “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University are represented by master and doctorate programs in various disciplines.
Courses are provided in Romanian, English and Russian languages.
The duration of courses is 3 years. Each academic year consists of 34 weeks divided into two semesters: Autumn semester (17 weeks) and Spring semester (17 weeks). There is an examination session at the end of each semester. Academic year begins on 1 September and ends at the beginning of August.
The university provides preparatory language courses for those students who choose to learn in Romanian or English language. The students are taught Romanian or English language as well as the basics of history, psychology, sociology, and education. Having successfully passed the graduation exams, the candidates could be enrolled in the undergraduate level programs at the chosen faculty.
