History

Moldova State University was founded on October 1, 1946 as the State University of Chisinau. Its creation was a milestone for the development, strengthening and consolidation of the higher education of the country. 5 faculties were opened initially at the State University of Chisinau (Physics and Mathematics, Geology and Soil Science, Biology, Chemistry, History and Philology). During the first year, 320 people were enrolled at 12 departments; the educational process was guided by the academic staff of 35. Currently, Moldova State University is one of the most important higher educational institutions in the country. It has around 17 000 students from different countries like Turkey, Israel, Romania, UAE, etc., who study at over 100 programs and specializations at 14 faculties. The educational process is guided by academic staff of 1134 including 8 academicians and corresponding members of Academies of Sciences, 90 professors, 364 associate professors.


Accreditation and International recognition

The Technical University of Moldova is accredited by the Ministry of Education of Moldova. Ministry of Education of Moldova has mutual collaboration agreements with Turkey, Israel and other countries. The university participates in the European Higher Education Area - Bologna Process. The studies are organized based on the European transferable academic credits system (ECTS). ECTS system facilitates student mobility in the European Area and the recognition of university diplomas.

Graduate studies at Moldova State University are represented by master and doctorate programs in various disciplines.

Courses are provided in Romanian, English and Russian languages.

The duration of courses is 3 or 4 years. Each academic year consists of 34 weeks divided into two semesters: Autumn semester (17 weeks) and Spring semester (17 weeks). There is an examination session at the end of each semester. Academic year begins on 1 September and ends at the beginning of August.


Preparatory year

The university provides preparatory language courses for those students who choose to learn in Romanian or English language. The students are taught Romanian or English language as well as the basics of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and economics. Having successfully passed the graduation exams, the candidates could be enrolled in undergraduate level programs at the chosen faculty.

Duration of courses – 1 year.

University fees

The fee structure for students enrolled in academic year 2016-2017:

  • Preparatory year: 1000 €;
  • Undergraduate level: 1100 € per academic year.

Additional expenses:

  1. Medical Certificates – approx. 400 lei (~27-30 €);
  2. Health Insurance – approx. 900 lei (~ 60 €);
  3. Right of Residence – 180 lei (~12 €) (~159 € for urgency);
  4. Residence Permit – 400 lei (~27 euro) (~ 47 € for urgency);
  5. Dormitory Fee – 440 lei (~20 € per month);
  6. Cost of the Invitation to Study – 10 €;
  7. Cost of Courier “DHL” – 80 €;
  8. Other expenses.
